FT 2023 rankings: SKEMA misses the mark

SKEMA no longer appears in this year's ranking, having been ranked 41st last year, after dropping 21 places compared to 2021. According to the school's press release to its students, SKEMA did not achieve the required 20% response rate from its graduates to the FT survey, which is why it is not included in the 2023 ranking.

The Financial Times rankings are largely based on the "Alumni Survey", which is administered directly by the FT to graduates who graduated 3 years earlier. This year, the return rate for SKEMA graduates did not exceed 20%.

Last but not least, Skema enjoys excellent momentum in France's benchmark rankings. For example, SKEMA ranks 5th in Le Point, 5th in Le Parisien, 6th in Challenges, Le Figaro and L'Étudiant. What's more, the school remains 4th worldwide in the QS ranking of the best Masters in Finance.

How is the FT 2023 ranking calculated?

The Financial Times ranking is based on the business programs offered by business schools, including MBAs, EMBAs, Masters in Finance, Masters in Management and online MBAs. To be eligible for this ranking, schools must hold AACSB or Equis accreditation, and the programs evaluated must have a track record of at least 3 or 4 years. In addition, schools' research activities are also taken into account, including the number of publications and the involvement of teacher-researchers within the institution.

Graduate salaries are also an important criterion in this ranking. It is calculated according to the purchasing power rate published by the IMF, which is then converted into dollars for global comparison. Other factors, such as the percentage of international students, student diversity, post-training salary increase and others, are also taken into consideration when evaluating schools for inclusion in the Financial Times rankings.

Finally, as we saw with the example of SKEMA, each school must obtain at least a 20% response rate from its graduates - the threshold set by the FT for a schoo
