For the first time in 12 years, 6 French schools have made it into the world's Top 10, with some notable performances. HEC Paris, which dethroned the University of St Gallen in 2023, slips back one place this year to second place worldwide. However, there's a pleasant surprise in store: INSEAD, a newcomer to the ranking, takes third place worldwide and second place in France, dethroning ESCP, which slips back to sixth place worldwide.
EDHEC Business School makes spectacular headway, moving up 7 places to fourth place worldwide, making it the third best French school. According to EDHEC Director Tristan-Pierre Maury, this is a truly “historic breakthrough”, thanks in particular to the differentiated career paths offered by the school, in line with business expectations.
Notable setbacks for some institutions in the FT 2024 ranking
Conversely, other schools saw their position deteriorate. ESCP dropped two places to sixth in the world, while ESSEC fell five positions to tenth. These declines mark a transition year for these Parisian institutions, which are still dominant, but less so than in 2023.
As for emlyon business school, it loses just one place, coming in eighth worldwide, relatively stable compared with the previous year.
Strong growth in schools
Some French schools stand out for their strong progress. IÉSEG School of Management climbs 9 places to 23rd worldwide, thanks in particular to significant improvements in the carbon footprint and career services criteria. SKEMA Business School is also back in 30th place worldwide, after having been absent from the ranking in 2023.
New entrants and absentees from the FT 2024 rankings
This 2024 edition welcomes some notable new entrants, such as INSEAD and EM Strasbourg Business School, ranked 3rd and 66th worldwide respectively. However, some schools such as EM Normandie, ISC Paris and INSEEC remain absent this year.

The Financial Times defined 19 criteria, weighted as follows:
- Alumni salary 3 years after graduation (16%)
- Salary progression between graduation and the date of the study (10%)
- Career progression (6%)
- Return on tuition investment (6%)
- Internationality of the program through internships and exchanges (6%)
- Internationality of graduates' careers (6%)
- Alumni achievements (5%)
- Percentage of women on faculty (5%)
- Proportion of graduates hired within 3 months of graduation (5%)
