QS Ranking 2025 : Which are the world's best universities ?

The QS 2025 ranking of the world's best universities has finally been released. This year's list includes 1,500 universities, a first in the history of rankings.

In this 13th edition, the USA is the most represented country, with 197 institutions ranked, followed by the UK with 90 and China with 71.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retains its top position. Imperial College London stands out from the crowd, moving up four places. It is now in second place worldwide.

Oxford University and Harvard University occupy 3rd and 4th places respectively. Finally, Cambridge University comes in fifth.

This year, the top spot in the QS 2025 ranking of the best French universities is occupied by PSL University, ranking 24th worldwide. It remains stable compared to the last edition, with no change in the ranking.

However, most French universities have fallen sharply, such as the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, which drops 8 places to 2nd in the French ranking and 46th in the world ranking. Similarly, Sorbonne Université, which closed the French podium, dropped 4 places to 63rd worldwide.

A number of French institutions have seen a much steeper fall this year, due to the increased competitiveness between different universities. This was the case for Université Paris-Cité, which dropped 66 places to 8th in France and 302nd worldwide. Similarly, Grenoble-Alpes University and Sciences Po dropped 40 and 31 places respectively to 334th and 350th worldwide, or 9th and 10th in France.

Last but not least, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne performed extremely well, climbing 45 places in the rankings. It is now ranked 7th among French universities and 283rd worldwide.
